Showing some Philly love
I absolutely adore my city. I’ve lived in the heart of Philadelphia for over 5 years now and I can tell you right now that I have no intention of leaving. I love the city’s distinct neighborhoods, the endless BYOB dining options, the history, the music, the DIY attitude– everything. But one of my favorite things about living in this particular spot on the map is the fact that I share an area code with some incredibly talented ladies.
Some of these people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with. Others are ones that I admire and hope to have the chance to interact with in my life at some point. But these Etsy shop owners, artists, bloggers and creative lovelies are sure to impress you. So here are a few of my Philly favorites. Show them some love (left to right, top to bottom):
Oma Vintage: Ada is probably one of the sweetest (and most stylish people) I’ve ever met. She has been selling vintage clothing for several years now and her eye for finds never disappoints. Although she closed her brick and mortar store in the city last year, she still has tons of amazing pieces in her Etsy shop.
Giant Dwarf: Sue Eggen has really taken this city by storm with appearances at several craft shows and a self-curated show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. She’s a favorite for many on Etsy and creates some incredible hair accessories that are like none other.
Veronika of Tick Tock Vintage: This gal is a serious style inspiration. Her blog has really taken off lately and that is no surprise– Veronika’s way of putting an outfit together is an art form. Couple that with her incredible photography and sweet personality and you’ve got some absolutely addicting internet reading. Plus she sells great vintage pieces in her Etsy shop.
Tree & Kimball: Lisa is an incredible jewelry designer who makes most of her pieces out of lace. All of them are so delicate and pretty– perfect for a special occasion or everyday wear. I’ve recently had lots of fun chatting with Lisa on twitter and she’s just so NICE! Make sure to check out her vintage shop as well.
Girls Can Tell: I’ve been secretly stalking the goods from local shop Girls Can Tell for quite some time. They just have the cutest screen-printed housewares designed by the talented Sara Selepouchin. I can’t get enough of the dish towels and costers!
Mouse Trap Vintage: Sarah of Mouse Trap Vintage is just an all-around great person. She’s so much fun to hang out with and our first meeting was over mid-day pancakes in a local diner (Little Petes!). Not only does she find some of the coolest (and wackiest) vintage items, but she is also a talented artist who creates cute little mouse brooches (pictured). She’s also taken up textile design with an equally lovely Philadelphia girl named Beth in the Etsy shop Squid and Whale Designs.
I have a whole lot of love for these people so please check out their shops, say hello and support them in any way you can.
A few of my favorite things
Hello lovely people! I have been a bad blogger recently, but one of my New Year’s resolutions is to start updating this space more often. So stay tuned!
I wanted to pop in here to just say that I had one of the most wonderful holidays to date with my family and loved ones. I was able to go on a thrifting trip, see Black Swan with my sisters, eat tons and tons of food, drink Manhattans (a holiday favorite!) and cozy up in my childhood home. To make the visit even more exciting, my twin sister got engaged and I couldn’t be happier! Now I have weddings on the brain.
This year for Christmas, I actually asked for a ton of things from Etsy, primarily from my boyfriend. He hates shopping in stores and I figured it would save him the hassle. He actually didn’t buy me anything on my list, because the crazy boy bought me a MacBook Pro instead. I was so shocked that I literally cried. Plus he bought me this sweet messenger bag from Stash Bags as a bonus gift! I’m a lucky, lucky girl.
I also am pretty excited about the necklace my little sister bought me from LuxCoronette. It’s cast from a mountain lion claw and made out of bullet casings. I’ve been eyeing it forever and it’s even better than I hoped!
My parents also gifted me with some Clarks rain boots. I’ve been in desperate need of rainboots for the past three years, but simply never got around to shopping for them. These are perfect and actually fit my muscular (read: gigantic) calves.
Plus with the money I received from family members, I was able to purchase a brand new dress form for my Etsy shop. It’s pretty and white and now I will be able to display black dresses in a much more appealing way. I should be getting it in the mail today and I can’t wait to set it up and start using it!
Needless to say, my Christmas was amazing and it’s hard to believe that it’s over already. But I’m looking forward to the New Year and all it has to offer! Happy holidays everyone.
Thanksgiving with my family
It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving was a whole week ago and we are now just a short time from Christmas!
I was so thrilled to be able to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with my amazing and wonderful family. There was wonderful food and amazing company. Aren’t my parents and sisters adorable?
For the occasion I wore a great 1950s day dress that I bought from a thrift store in Boston, a navy cardigan sweater, non-vintage cameo brooch and some Born shoes. I felt very Pilgrim-ish.
Although the weekend went by much too fast, it really made me realize just how much I have to be thankful for. Now, I’ll just count down the days until Christmas when I can visit with my family again.
I hope you all had an equally wonderful holiday.
Holiday dress up (preview)
Just a little look at what is to come in the shop! Some great party dresses– two velvet Suzy Perette numbers (top two images), a gold brocade dress with fur trim (adorable!), a couple sweet black frocks worthy of Mad Men, a beaded silk number and an incredible fiery orange satin top from the 20s or 30s.
All items will be in the shop by the end of the week. I hope you enjoy this sneak peek. And if you see something that strikes your fancy, feel free to email me for more information.
Black Friday Sale

Happy Thanksgiving friends! I am with my family in Northeastern, Pennsylvania and I’ve spent most of my time eating turkey and pie (so stuffed). It has been wonderful to see my family and spend time with my sisters.
Tomorrow (Friday, November 26) I will be having a massive sale for Black Friday in my shop. You will receive 30% off your purchase simply by entering the coupon code BLACKFRIDAY at checkout. This is a great time to stock up on vintage gifts or buy a little something for yourself.
Please note that this sale and coupon code will expire at midnight (EST) and cannot be combined with any other offers. Items purchased will be shipped promptly on Monday when I return to Philadelphia.
I hope everyone has had a safe and happy holiday. Happy shopping!
Blue Velvet
I have never been a big fan of velvet– it brings back memories of being forced into poofy Christmas dresses as a child– but this year I am starting to come around to the rich material.
My shop contains far more velvet than I had anticipated, including this amazing 1950s party dress. And this royal blue blazer was supposed to join the rest of the items for sale.
But then I put it on and wore it out– and well, I think I’m going to hold on to it for a while.
A Ring Thing
Lately, I have been obsessed with rings for my jewelry accessories of choice. I can’t explain the sudden urge to wear one on every finger, but I’m embracing this urge wholeheartedly.
Over the weekend, I happened to stumble upon a flea market right in my neighborhood. There were some pretty great vendors there, but a lot of the prices for items were pretty high. But I stumbled across a table of jewelry and was immediately drawn to the awesome dragon ring that you see pictured above. I scooped it up for $10 and walked back home with a spring in my step.
I’m wearing the ring today and I can’t stop staring at it. Not only is it absolutely huge– the wingspan has to be about an inch across– but it is so detailed and creepy and cool. I LOVE it.
But there are also plenty of other rings I would buy if I had an endless cash flow. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Vintage IN MY DREAMS 1930s ring from Jean Jean Vintage
- Sterling Silver Claw Ring from Lux Coronette
- Vintage Modernist Ring Kollmar and Jourdan from Purple Daisy Jewelry
- Baby Fox Ring from Axel Honey
I love this dress ‘Dear’ly
It was a beautiful weekend in Philadelphia– temperatures in the 70s, sunny skies, a light breeze. So, of course, I took advantage of the wonderful whether and threw on my lovely new dress from Dear Golden Vintage.
Lauren’s lovely shop needs no introduction. Her constant stock of pristine dresses, coats, sweaters and shoes is endlessly impressive. I missed out on a few past dresses from her shop due to bad timing and unsubstantial funds, so when I saw this pale green dress sitting there in my size, I pounced on it! Thankfully, Lauren was kind enough to put it on reserve for me until pay day!
The photos of this dress don’t really do it justice. I love the wide portrait collar and the fabric roses. Plus it has such a nice shape and pockets in the front. And I adore a dress with pockets.
I threw my hair up in a messy ponytail and put on my pretty rose-colored lace headband from Branchbound made by the super-sweet Sara Louise (we did a trade a little while back). And I also added my favorite little bunny necklace from Lost and Fawned as well!
I’m looking kind of silly in these photos, but the boyfriend has very little patience with my posing in the middle of the street (haha).
Has anyone else fallen in love with a dress recently?

Gift Card Giveaway: Celebrating my one-year Etsyversary!
It is hard to believe, but one year ago today is when I opened up my Etsy shop and began plotting my course as Hinterland Vintage!
The past year has been so rewarding for me. I am finally doing something that I love and enjoy– and I can’t be more thrilled about it.
Over the past 12 months, I have made tons of new friends and become part of a really wonderful community of vintage sellers (you are all the best!). I’ve experienced the ups (multiple sales in one day!) and the downs (feeling absolutely invisible) of selling online and the entire process has been a rewarding learning experience.
I just want to say thank you to my amazing customers, my friends and my support system.
And now on to the good stuff…
To celebrate I am giving away a $30 gift card to my Etsy shop to one lucky reader!
To enter, simply comment on this blog post letting me know what item(s) you would spend the money on. For an extra entry, tweet this giveaway on Twitter with @missHinterland in the text and come back here to comment and let me know you tweeted! Make sure to leave your email address in the comment so that I can contact you if you win.
One winner will be chosen at random on Monday, October 11. Good luck!
