Showing some Philly love

January 13, 2011

I absolutely adore my city. I’ve lived in the heart of Philadelphia for over 5 years now and I can tell you right now that I have no intention of leaving. I love the city’s distinct neighborhoods, the endless BYOB dining options, the history, the music, the DIY attitude– everything. But one of my favorite things about living in this particular spot on the map is the fact that I share an area code with some incredibly talented ladies.

Some of these people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with. Others are ones that I admire and hope to have the chance to interact with in my life at some point. But these Etsy shop owners, artists, bloggers and creative lovelies are sure to impress you. So here are a few of my Philly favorites. Show them some love (left to right, top to bottom):

Oma Vintage: Ada is probably one of the sweetest (and most stylish people) I’ve ever met. She has been selling vintage clothing for several years now and her eye for finds never disappoints. Although she closed her brick and mortar store in the city last year, she still has tons of amazing pieces in her Etsy shop.

Giant Dwarf: Sue Eggen has really taken this city by storm with appearances at several craft shows and a self-curated show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. She’s a favorite for many on Etsy and creates some incredible hair accessories that are like none other.

Veronika of Tick Tock Vintage: This gal is a serious style inspiration. Her blog has really taken off lately and that is no surprise– Veronika’s way of putting an outfit together is an art form. Couple that with her incredible photography and sweet personality and you’ve got some absolutely addicting internet reading. Plus she sells great vintage pieces in her Etsy shop.

Tree & Kimball: Lisa is an incredible jewelry designer who makes most of her pieces out of lace. All of them are so delicate and pretty– perfect for a special occasion or everyday wear. I’ve recently had lots of fun chatting with Lisa on twitter and she’s just so NICE! Make sure to check out her vintage shop as well.

Girls Can Tell: I’ve been secretly stalking the goods from local shop Girls Can Tell for quite some time. They just have the cutest screen-printed housewares designed by the talented Sara Selepouchin. I can’t get enough of the dish towels and costers!

Mouse Trap Vintage: Sarah of Mouse Trap Vintage is just an all-around great person. She’s so much fun to hang out with and our first meeting was over mid-day pancakes in a local diner (Little Petes!). Not only does she find some of the coolest (and wackiest) vintage items, but she is also a talented artist who creates cute little mouse brooches (pictured). She’s also taken up textile design with an equally lovely Philadelphia girl named Beth in the Etsy shop Squid and Whale Designs.

I have a whole lot of love for these people so please check out their shops, say hello and support them in any way you can.
